Ok, so I’m going to steer clear of the ‘never judge a book by it’s cover’ cliche… Oh, sorry, too late!
But book covers are something I’ve given a lot of thought to lately as I am considering publishing my novel myself, initially as an e-book. This means that I need to think about what will be simple (and economical) to produce, but also something that will stand out.
Here are some of the covers of best selling novels from the Waterstones website:
They are all very different but one thing remains the same for the majority of them – the author’s name is bigger and more prominent than the book’s title. That could of course be partly down to the fact that these are uber-well known authors who are celebrities in their own right and this is a key sales tactic.
